General Description:
Nablag Tugpo is the crown jewel of our dive sites to date. The name (Nablag) comes from the name of a small island located at the south end of its larger brother (Mararison Island). The word "tugpo" translates to "east" in the Kiniray-A dialect. So, Nablag Tugpo indicates east of Nablag Island. Due to the location of the site it is protected from the Amihan (warm northerly wind). The site is very large and is very diverse in its composition. We have identified 13 valleys within this site. The valley peaks range from 5m below the surface to 35m below the surface. If you are looking for walls, Nablag Tugpo is your dive site. We have seen everything from huge clams to very large grouper. The marine life here is very diverse. We have located several very large Spiny Blue Lobsters (clawless lobster indigenous to the area). These are truly incredible critters! We went to a depth of 38 meters to check the depth of coral growth and we found mostly coral rubble below 32 meters.
The site is only accessible by boat. It is a 15 minute ride from the end of Bay Bay Boulevard. It is not necessary to lay anchor in the area. The current is not strong and the bottom is visible from the surface. We estimate visibility at 20 meters (December 2005). This is a "MUCK DIVERS" dream location. The macro photography is incredible at this location. The site is rated for all skill level of divers. This is a "must dive" for anyone in the area!
