LIPATA POINT
DEPTH: 25 meters
WATER TEMPERATURE: 32°C
AIR TEMPERATURE: 32.5°C
General Description:
Lipata Point is the HOUSE REEF for Panay Explorers. The reef in the area is under protection of the barangay captain for Lipata. The town is the port for area. The ferry from Manila comes several times a week. The reef lies on the southern edge of the point. The reef is as shallow as 5 meters and descends to a depth of 25 meters. The reef is composed of hard and soft corals. The hard coral is very healthy and shows signs of continued growth. The soft coral houses many different kinds of native marine life. This is the first area that we have seen clawless lobsters (see the photo below). The surrounding areas fall off to 40 (+) meters. The area is good for all types of underwater photography. The area supports training for the novice diver. The reef has everything from big fish to small marine life.
The reef is accessible by boat only. The reef is 3 minute ride from the 27.50 resort. It is not necessary to lay anchor in the area. The current is not strong and the bottom is visible from the surface. We estimate visibility at 20 meters (October 2005). The site is great for those divers looking for a relaxing, shallow dive.
