General Description:

Clam Farm is a super snorkel site as well as SCUBA diving location. The site is covered in clams. The area has a sorted history because of the cyanide fishing that occurred there many years ago. It is a place that is making a remarkable come back. The inhabitants of the reef provide a colorful display of marine life. The CLAM FARM is a great place to learn Open Water SCUBA Diving or SNORKELING. This dive site is for all levels of diver. We discovered a series of large coral formations that were once lifeless due to cyanide fishing. The site is now teaming with life. This is a muck divers paradise. The site is off the north end of Mararison Island on the east side. This side of the island is protected from the winds that come in from the north. It is best to align the boat off the shoreline (by Russel Beach) in about 10 meters of water. It is not difficult to find a sandy bottom area for the anchor. The reef starts at a depth of 5 meters and gradually goes to 40 (+) meters. The coral formations lie at 2 (+) meters. The reef is composed of hard corals with coral fish everywhere. The new hard coral is very healthy and shows signs of continued growth. There is some soft coral. It houses many different kinds of native marine life. The surrounding areas fall off to 40 (+) meters. The area is good for underwater photography and excellent for training dives.

The reef is accessible by boat only. It is a 10 minute ride from the end of Bay Bay Boulevard. It is NOT necessary to lay anchor in the area. The current is not strong. We estimate visibility at 20 meters (October 2005). The site is great for all divers. A blue water ascent is possible..
